Year 6 Book Club

Our book club meets twice every half term and the children help choose the book they would like to read next from a selection of titles.

At the club, the children are encouraged to say anything they like about the book and to justify any opinions. They also like to give examples from the book and even read out parts of it. It is all about reading for fun and enjoyment.

We recently read Point Blanc - the second in the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz. During the lively discussion, here are just some of the things the children said about this book;

I thought the book was a great next book; really expanded the story.

I liked this book but I preferred the first one - there was more detail in it about Alex and how he was becoming more like a spy.

I enjoyed Point Blanc and really want to read the rest of the books in the series now. Great hero!

I liked the emotion that was in this story. You really felt for Alex.

He was a real hero at times and he has these great gadgets.

Ugh, imagine having a clone of yourself that was designed to be nasty! Still, I liked the book and want to read more like this!

Our next book is Carries War, by Nina Bawden. It's the story of a 12-year old girl and her brother who are evacuated during WWII and how their lives get tangled up with the people they live with.

Our next meeting to talk about the book will be in Mid-March. We'll let you know how we got on!
