Air Quality Monitoring Project
With Ms Mauro, Year five have a regular book club, where they get to read all kinds of fabulous and interesting books! We asked some of the children why they thought Book Club was great, and these are just some of the things they said:
We like book group because….You listen to other people ; you express your feelings; you don’t keep your ideas in your head ; you connect the author and other stories; you learn new things; you share ideas on differences and similarities; books can teach you morals.
We have just read Roald Dahl’s first autobiography, ‘Boy’.
The headteacher , Mrs Pratchett and some of his teachers reminded us of Miss Trunchenball in ‘Matilda.’ We also wondered if he had a pet tortoise and if that is how he got the idea for ‘Esio Trot.’
We loved it and talked about how his childhood was both happy and sad, how his school should have taught him right and wrong but didn’t always and how there used to be so much bullying by teachers and prefects.
We think ’Boy’ influenced his fiction. It has a sweetshop and gobstoppers in it which appear in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’
He also says that he used to taste boxes of Cadburys chocolates at home just like Charlie did.
Come back soon and find out what we’re reading next!
